Featured Client: Cenia New York

It was a windy autumn Saturday afternoon in downtown Manhattan and Klickpicks set out to shoot  Cenia New York’s Fall/Winter Campaign Video on Pearl Street under the Brooklyn Bridge. I accidentally discovered this location trolling the seaport for oysters when I noticed approximately 4 city bloc­­ks completely shut down and still devastated by the aftermath of Sandy. I instantly thought of turning this ghost town into a movie set.

Designer Cenia Paredes’ vision is to create dresses with clean aesthetics and sophistication with a revolutionary fit. Her flare for blending fabrics with a kaleidoscope of colors compels even the non-fashionista to slip on a dress and paint the town red.Shockingly the cast and crew arrived early, bright eyed and bushy tailed.  We had carefully put together a trifecta of talented artists and models ranging from the Caribbean islands to Queens, NY to Eastern Europe so I had succumbed to the notion that we were destined to catch lightening in a bottle.

Models Alysha Grace Marko, Dariany Santana and Whitney Conkling quickly made their first wardrobe change and 5 minutes later the cameras were rolling. Our video sound track “Lottery” by Lydia Caesar was blaring from my truck like a hypnotic vibration to set the tempo while all three girls effortlessly danced across the cobblestone streets defying gravity in 5-inch heels as if they were born to wear stilettos.Next location was Battery Park City. I managed to get Captain Herrteka of Norwegian Cruise line on the horn and asked him to make his way down the Hudson so we can get his ocean liner in the back drop. We timed it perfectly and got the shot we were looking for. Just kidding. That shot wasn’t planned. We pulled up right as the cruise liner was making its way down and the girls sprinted through toddlers and their sitters to make it happen. Luck was on our side.

The last location was a roof deck overlooking the Jersey City skyline. At this point the models were getting restless and the temperature dropped so the champagne starting flowing and we got back in the zone. A few twists and turns aside we wrapped ahead of schedule and made our way to Odeon in TriBeCa for a bite to eat. Whether we caught lightening in a bottle remains to be seen but we definitely ended up leaving a few bottles empty at the table.
